Kongsberg killer in court over extension of psychiatric sentence

According to adressa.no, Drammen district court is now hearing the question of whether the Kongsberg killer should continue to be subject to compulsory psychiatric treatment. One day has been set aside for the case.

– We believe there is grounds to maintain him under a sentence of compulsory psychiatric treatment. One of the conditions for extension is the question of the risk of reoffending, says state prosecutor Andreas Christiansen.

The sentence must be reviewed in court every three years, and the state prosecutor has brought charges with a view to continuing it. The killer's defence attorney Fredrik Neumann has declined to comment on the case.

The killings took place in Kongsberg on 13 October 2021. After shooting with a bow and arrow inside a grocery store, the perpetrator moved on to Hyttegata, where the killings were committed. All victims were random people who were killed with a knife.

During the trial in 2022, the forensic psychiatrists Harald Brauer and Helge Haugerud concluded that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
