Seven men appeared on Tuesday in Oslo District Court, charged with serious robbery and false imprisonment of a family with children in their own home, reports gauldalsposten.no. Five of the accused are also suspected of serious assault and threats with a firearm.

All are in their 20s and 30s. The youngest was 20 years old when the robbery took place.

Forced their way in disguised as Foodora courier and police

Late one evening in autumn last year, the robbers approached a detached house where the parents, two small children and a grandparent were present. It was around 23:00 when they – disguised as Foodora couriers and police officers – forced their way into the house as the door was opened. The incident is described in the charge sheet issued by prosecutor Ane Evang.

The family father attempted to resist. He was beaten in the face so severely that his jaw broke, and had a pistol pressed against his back. He was then bound with tape and had tape placed over his mouth. The robbers ordered him to transfer two million dollars in cryptocurrency and threatened to shoot him and the children. The transfer failed because he did not have funds in the account.

The pistol was also pointed at the two women in the home, and the robbers racked the slide so that a round fell out onto the floor. The wife was bound in the room where one of the children lay asleep. The man's mother was bound with tape and handcuffed. After approximately 20 minutes, neighbours and police arrived, and the family was released. The robbers took several watches and other valuables with them.

Police: appears to be a commissioned job

Police believe the robbery appears to be a commissioned job, but have so far been unable to identify who is behind it, according to TV 2. Police prosecutor Sonika Sharma-Sundheim informed the channel that many of the accused travelled from Sweden to Norway to commit the robbery, and it remains unclear whether the job was commissioned from Norwegian or Swedish sources.

The man's legal aid counsel Yusufine Opprann describes the case as highly distressing for her client. The legal aid counsel for the wife and the two children describes it as serious, grave and extremely frightening.

Divided admissions among the accused

The man who dressed as a Foodora courier and threatened with a pistol is represented by lawyer Daniel Storrvik. He admits guilt for serious robbery, but not necessarily for all counts as formulated in the charge sheet, Storrvik told TV 2. One other of the accused admits partial guilt, whilst the rest either deny guilt or have not responded to enquiries from Avisa Oslo and TV 2.

The trial in Oslo District Court is scheduled to run until 11 November.
