Seven charged with robbery against family: threatened with gun and demanded cryptocurrency
Seven men are appearing in Oslo District Court on Tuesday charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful detention against a family with children in a detached house. This is reported by adressa.no based on charges brought by state prosecutor Ane Evang. Five of the accused are additionally charged with grievous bodily harm and threats with a firearm.
All of the accused are in their twenties and thirties. The youngest was 20 years old at the time of the offence.
Disguised as Foodora delivery driver and police
One evening in autumn last year, the robbers approached the detached house where the parents, two young children and a grandparent were staying. It was approximately 11 p.m. Disguised as a Foodora delivery driver and police officers, they forced their way in when the door was opened.
The family's father was hit in the face and suffered a broken jaw. When he attempted to resist, a gun was pressed against his back. He was bound with tape and tape was placed over his mouth. The robbers ordered him to transfer two million dollars in cryptocurrency and threatened to shoot him and the children. The transfer failed as he did not have funds in his account.
The robbers subsequently pointed the gun at the two women in the home and racked the slide, causing a round to fall out.
The man's wife was bound in the room where one of the children was sleeping. The man's mother was also bound with tape and placed in handcuffs. Only when neighbours and police arrived approximately 20 minutes later were they released. The robbers left the scene with several watches and other valuables.
Police: Appears to be a contract job
Police assess the robbery as a contract job, but have not yet identified the person who ordered it, writes TV 2. Police prosecutor Sonika Sharma-Sundheim states to the channel: "Many of the accused travelled to Norway from Sweden to commit this robbery. Whether it was ordered by someone in Norway or Sweden, we have not yet established."
The man's legal aid adviser Yusufine Opprann describes the case as a serious burden for the victim. The legal aid adviser for the wife and the two children calls it serious, grave and very frightening.
Partial admission
The man who was disguised as a Foodora delivery driver and threatened with a gun is represented by advocate Daniel Storrvik. He accepts criminal responsibility for aggravated robbery, but not necessarily for all charges as formulated in the indictment, he informs TV 2. Another accused admits partial criminal responsibility, while a third defence counsel has not responded to contact from Avisa Oslo. The remaining accused for complicity either deny criminal responsibility or have not responded to media enquiries.
The case is being heard in Oslo District Court until 11 November.
