DJ held for 12 hours: two arrested following police operation in San Juan de Lurigancho
A university student who works as a DJ was kidnapped on José Carlos Mariátegui avenue in the district of Ate by two armed individuals who descended from a red vehicle and forced him inside under death threats. This was reported by infobae.com, citing information from Latina Noticias and an official statement from the Peruvian National Police (PNP).
The victim remained detained for approximately 12 hours at a residence on Jirón Los Cuarzos, Manco Cápac urbanisation, in San Juan de Lurigancho. During his captivity, the abductors subjected him to torture and recorded videos which they sent to his family members as proof of life, demanding payment of 50,000 soles in exchange for his release.
Negotiations for the ransom did not succeed. Faced with this situation, the criminals emptied the young man's bank accounts, withdrawing approximately 4,000 soles. On Sunday morning, the victim was released in the vicinity of Puente Nuevo, in the district of El Agustino, and is unharmed.
The PNP confirmed through an official statement that the victim was located and brought to safety a few hours after intelligence and investigation work began, which made it possible to thwart the kidnappers' financial demands.
According to the authorities, the detainees are said to be members of the criminal gang known as Los Remanentes del Hampa. The PNP identified them as M. A. M. T., 39 years old, and E. M. G., 24 years old, both named as alleged perpetrators of the kidnapping. The two were located at a hostel in San Juan de Lurigancho, near where they were staying.
In the police operation, a vehicle, a revolver-type firearm, 26 rounds of ammunition and three mobile telephones were seized, including the one belonging to the victim.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of the justice system. The Public Ministry continues with proceedings to clarify the case, whilst the PNP announced it will continue strengthening its intelligence operations to combat kidnapping, extortion and other criminal methods that affect citizen security.
