Case of falsified medical documents brought to court
According to police.pl, the Corruption Combating Division of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice has concluded an investigation into irregularities in medical documentation at two clinics in Tychy and Zabrze. The National Health Fund suffered a loss of over 160,000 zlotys as a result of dishonest actions by a 60-year-old man, who was charged with nearly 4,000 counts.
The proceedings have been ongoing for several years under the supervision of the Rybnik District Prosecutor's Office. Initially, two cases concerning the clinics in Tychy and Zabrze were conducted separately, but in January 2024 they were combined. The investigation revealed that between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021, a person authorised to manage the company instructed employees to create documentation containing false information about the provision of environmental therapy.
The false documentation was subsequently intended to serve as justification for reimbursement of services by the National Health Fund. Inspections carried out by the fund at the prosecutor's request confirmed the irregularities identified. Police officers questioned approximately 500 witnesses and secured extensive medical documentation during searches.
The man admitted his guilt and declared his willingness to accept voluntary punishment. Improperly obtained funds were returned to the National Health Fund together with an imposed fine. By a decision on asset security, an amount of nearly 100,000 zlotys was secured. On 12 October 2026, the prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office in Rybnik submitted a request to the District Court in Zabrze for the issuance of a conviction judgment without holding a trial. The court will now decide on the sentence.
