Robbery and theft in the city centre

At the end of August, a robbery occurred in the area of Wileńska Street on Praga Północ. According to praga-polnoc.policja.gov.pl, a 57-year-old man heading to a shop was attacked by an unknown assailant who asked him for money. When the victim stated that he had no cash, an attack took place.

After regaining consciousness, the injured party noticed municipal guards and police officers. With mixed feelings, he discovered a theft — he was missing a pouch containing cash, documents, a telephone, and a watch. Medical services assessed that he did not require hospitalisation.

Police officers found the stolen pouch and some of the items in the district. Detectives from the Praga Północ police station joined the investigation. As reported by praga-polnoc.policja.gov.pl, an excellent knowledge of the local environment allowed them to quickly identify the suspect.

Detention and charges

The detained man turned out to be a 27-year-old with a criminal history, including for robbery. He had been released from custody in February of this year, where he had served nearly two years in prison. On Wednesday, detectives brought him to the District Prosecutor's Office Warsaw-Praga Północ.

The prosecutor presented him with a charge of robbery and filed a motion for pre-trial detention. The court granted the motion. The suspect faces a sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment.
