Police dismantle illegal gambling network in Silesia, 11 arrested
Police in Katowice have dismantled a network of illegal gambling machines. Eleven people were arrested, 53 machines were seized and over one million zlotys were recovered.

Operation against illegal gambling
Officers from the Regional Police Headquarters in Katowice, working jointly with the Independent Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Silesian Customs and Tax Office, arrested 11 people suspected of operating illegal gambling games on machines in breach of gambling law. According to slaska.policja.gov.pl, the operation took place between 26 and 28 October.
Investigators searched the residential premises of the suspects and 11 locations with gaming machines in Rybnik, Racibórz and surrounding areas. A total of 53 gambling machines were seized. Officers also found over one million zlotys in Polish and foreign currency, a collection of 12 gold coins, and substantial amounts in foreign currencies, the exact value of which could not be established due to the condition of moisture-damaged money.
The arrested individuals were charged with operating illegal gambling games and participating in an organised criminal group. One of the suspects – a Czech citizen – was accused of leading the group. The District Court ordered the detention of five people. The remaining suspects were given non-custodial preventive measures. The perpetrators face substantial fines and prison sentences. The District Prosecutor's Office in Gliwice is supervising the investigation.
