The crime occurred on Thursday in the village of Stale. A man entered a petrol station building with a tool hidden under a black bag. After crossing the threshold, he pulled out a hammer and struck the till counter, causing damage. He then began threatening the people gathered there.
One of the employees, recognising the danger, ran outside to call for help. Meanwhile, the other member of staff, fearing for his own life, handed the attacker 4,070 zloty in notes. The perpetrator then demanded a carton of cigarettes, grabbed a bottle of strong alcohol from the shelf and left the premises. Nobody was hurt.
After the report was made, patrol cars arrived at the scene, including detectives and an officer with a tracking dog. Evidence was secured, CCTV footage was reviewed and an investigation began into the route the thief had taken.
A motorbike was found in the woods, which the bandit had used for transportation, and nearby lay discarded outerwear and the weapon used during the robbery. Thanks to the efficient work of the investigative team, officers from the police headquarters in Tarnobrzeg apprehended a 43-year-old resident of the surrounding district.
The stolen money and cigarettes were found on the detainee. The entire sum stolen was returned to the owner. The remaining evidence was also placed in police storage.
The man was charged with robbery using an object constituting a threat to life. The prosecutor applied for detention, and the court approved the application, imposing three months' remand in custody. This offence carries a sentence of between 3 and 20 years' imprisonment under the penal code.
