A PSP officer who now provides training to new recruits has been convicted of a suspended prison sentence for physically assaulting a young man during an operation in Amadora in February 2022.
Pedro Costa was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, with execution suspended. The officer currently holds the position of instructor at the Practical Police School.
According to Correio da Manhã, the victim was subjected to a routine search. At that moment, the defendant struck him with two punches to the face. After handcuffing the young man, he took him behind the patrol van, parked next to a building. There, he dealt further blows to the youth's face, whilst another member of the force immobilised his arm.
The court found the offences of aggravated bodily harm and abuse of power to be proven. The conviction was not subject to appeal.
