Luxury watch thief dies on Berlin Avenue after being pursued by victim

A robber died on Tuesday in Lisbon after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a BMW driver who was pursuing him — the same man who had been robbed by the group moments earlier. The incident occurred on Berlin Avenue, according to Correio da Manhã.

The deceased suspect was undocumented and all indications point to him being a South American citizen who had entered Portugal from Spain, integrated into a gang that, according to authorities, travelled specifically to steal luxury watches.

The gang consisted of four members. Together, they stole two Rolex watches and a gold chain from the BMW driver and his companions — goods valued at 100,000 euros in total.

After the robbery, the victim of the theft followed behind the robbers' motorcycles in his car. The impact to the rear of the motorcycle being ridden by one of the thieves caused the man to fall in front of a second vehicle, whose driver ran him over without having the possibility to avoid it. It was the chance intervention of this second vehicle that determined the robber's death.

The remaining three accomplices managed to escape and are on the run. The Judicial Police (PJ) was called to the scene to investigate the circumstances of the death and the robbery that preceded it.
