A 19-year-old has been detained by the Judicial Police in Portimão, in the Algarve, over suspicions of sexually abusing two girls aged seven and eight. The crimes are said to have occurred between May and 24 June. The report was made by one of the parents on Monday. The news was disclosed by Correio da Manhã.
The young man was looking after the children full-time and lived with them. He gained the parents' trust to carry out this role.
According to the Judicial Police, around twenty acts of sexual abuse occurred. The assaults took place in the girls' bedrooms when the parents were away. The detainee filmed the crimes with his mobile phone.
To ensure the victims' silence, he offered them sweets and let them play video games for longer than the parents allowed.
The investigation began following a report from one of the parents. The collection of evidence led to the suspect's detention, with support from the local National Republican Guard. The young man will be brought before a court for the application of precautionary measures.
