Pickpocket arrested in Lisbon's Baixa with losses exceeding 8,700 euros

Suspect identified in multiple thefts and robbery in Lisbon's city centre
Lisbon's PSP arrested a man on 11 November suspected of repeated property crimes in Santa Maria Maior parish, in Lisbon's Baixa district. The suspect was subjected to personal identification and identified as the perpetrator of a robbery that was under investigation, reported Correio da Manhã.
It was not the first time the defendant had been arrested in the same area. In February, in the same parish, he had already been caught red-handed committing a robbery, and was subjected to weekly check-ins — an obligation he failed to meet.
Authorities also managed to link him to the theft of a mobile phone from a tourist in early June in Misericórdia parish. The PSP indicated in a statement that these facts reinforced "the evidence of his criminal activity".
Six crimes identified, bank cards also used fraudulently
In total, evidence was gathered of one robbery, two counts of aggravated theft, three counts of simple theft and two counts of misuse of guarantee cards or payment cards, devices or payment data.
The property losses ascertained exceed 8,700 euros. To these are added material damage and attempted fraudulent use of stolen bank cards.
With all proceedings concluded, the judge ordered the precautionary measure of remand in custody.
