Two passengers from Brazil were detained on Tuesday at Lisbon Airport by agents of the UNEF of the PSP, accused of transporting cocaine inside their bodies. The case also involves an eight-month-old baby, the woman's son, who was taken to a healthcare unit as a precautionary measure.
Border inspectors became suspicious of the contradictory statements provided by the couple upon arrival. During a search, it was found that the mother, a 23-year-old Brazilian woman, had swallowed 110 capsules of the narcotic substance, and traces were also found in her underwear. Her partner was concealing another 60 capsules in the same manner.
The child was breastfed throughout the flight. Given the involvement of a minor, child protection authorities were called and decided to admit the child to a hospital.
The couple were taken to a healthcare facility to expel the capsules. The investigation is being handled by the UNEF of the PSP.
