A magistrate at Sintra court has opted to release a couple detained by municipal police, imposing only the obligation to present themselves regularly to the authorities. The male suspect is 41 years old and his companion 66.
The two were apprehended by the PSP in the municipality, accused of a series of robberies of commercial vans belonging to construction sector companies. The incidents occurred in Mem Martins during April. The modus operandi consisted of forcing entry into the vehicles to steal work equipment.
Police investigations allowed the recovery of various stolen objects, including containers with tools and heavy machinery. The estimated value of the material found amounts to around 11,000 euros.
In light of the evidence gathered by investigators, the criminal investigation judge decided not to apply preventive detention or other more severe restrictive measures on liberty. The two defendants left the court subject only to a Bail Bond with Identification and Residence Requirements.
