The head of the PSP, Luís Carrilho, described as out of the ordinary the naming of an officer from the force as a suspect within the criminal process targeting the right-wing identitarian group Movimento Armilar Lusitano. The police official stated that such a circumstance does not reflect the general reality of the institution.
Carrilho also emphasised that there are supervision systems both within and outside the PSP, which provide safeguards regarding the conduct of its officers.
The inquiry in question concerns an organisation classified as far-right, and resulted in the formal identification of an element with a command rank as a suspect — an occurrence that the national director characterises as not typical of the force.
