Google News PT — Crime reports that the PSP was called to the Maia Tennis Complex by a mother who found hashish in her 8-year-old son's backpack whilst he was attending a holiday camp at that location.
The woman went to the camp after the child's father had contacted her by telephone asking whether she had "seen anything" in his son's backpack. According to a police source cited by Lusa, "the mother decided to go to the holiday camp where the boy was, asked to see her son's backpack, found the drugs and called the PSP".
The same source confirmed that the child "had been with his father on the day before" the incident, with the parents being separated. The PSP is currently investigating the case.
The Maia Municipal Council, the entity responsible for the holiday activity in which the minor was participating, stated that "as soon as the situation was detected, appropriate procedures were immediately activated and the competent authorities were contacted".
The municipality emphasised that "the facts reported relate to circumstances external to the organisation and operation of the municipal activity, with no evidence whatsoever of involvement, responsibility or failure by the municipal services in the occurrence in question".
The local authority added that "all elements related to the situation were promptly communicated to the security forces for their respective investigation, with the case remaining under their responsibility and investigation".
