Daniel 'Cenoura', the main defendant in the homicide of Josué 'Boxista', was acquitted at trial. According to the Correio da Manhã, the case dates back to May 2025 and culminated in a verdict of acquittal due to insufficient evidence.
'Cenoura' had assumed responsibility for the fatal shot, claiming to have acted in defence of his uncle Valquirio's honour. However, that same uncle — who had identified him as the person responsible for the shot — was himself executed at a petrol station in Gondomar before the trial concluded. During the hearing, 'Cenoura' remained silent.
A witness declared having seen Daniel 'Cenoura' with a weapon in his hand, but none of those present appears to have witnessed the exact moment of the shot, which occurred at the entrance of the Shisha 13 bar in Porto. Fingerprint analysis also failed to establish that 'Cenoura' was the one who used the weapon that killed Josué 'Boxista'. In light of the absence of direct evidence, the court acquitted the defendant.
In the Cerco neighbourhood in Porto, news of the acquittal triggered immediate reactions: promises of revenge for 'Cenoura's' release are already circulating. Authorities anticipate hours of considerable tension and a possible escalation of violence in the Greater Porto neighbourhoods. The police are alerted to the situation and a reinforced police effort in the area may be mobilised.
