Officers from the Public Security Police apprehended a man and a woman, both originally from Brazil, in the airport area of the Portuguese capital. The agents suspected that the pair were engaged in transporting narcotics.
During the search, the authorities discovered cocaine on the woman. Subsequent medical analyses confirmed that both had illicit substances in their bodies, which indicates that they were also acting as so-called "mules" or drug couriers.
The situation was complicated by the fact that the couple were travelling accompanied by their son, a child aged only twelve months. Following the detention of the parents, the minor was placed under institutional protection.
