Man detained in Castelo Branco suspected of shootings in Portalegre

Authorities detained a 40-year-old man in Castelo Branco today, linked to a firearms incident that occurred on 20 April in Portalegre. The arrest was carried out by the Évora team of the Judicial Police, with collaboration from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Guarda, as reported by policiajudiciaria.pt.

The incident took place in the car park of a large commercial establishment. Apparently motivated by longstanding grievances between two families, the alleged assailant mistook his target for a rival from his clan. He then drew a pistol and fired five bullets at the 33-year-old man, who was injured in the arm and legs.

After the attack, the suspect fled and remained at large until located by investigators. He will now be subjected to judicial questioning, with restrictive liberty measures potentially being imposed upon him.
