The Public Prosecutor's Office formally filed an indictment against 19 individuals who, according to the authorities, formed a network dedicated to invading and plundering residences in the Lisbon region. The group's tactic consisted of presenting themselves as members of the security forces, subsequently resorting to armed coercion and violence to overpower the occupants.
The indictment decision was taken on the previous Friday and covers various offences: eleven cases classified as theft with aggravating circumstances, eight cases of illegal possession of weapons and one episode of trafficking in psychotropic substances considered to be of lesser seriousness.
The investigation was conducted by the Judicial Police, with the Lisbon Investigation and Criminal Action Department co-ordinating the process with assistance from the National Counter-Terrorism Unit.
Six of those implicated are currently subject to preventive detention as a precautionary measure. Another three are subject to compulsory home confinement. The State's representation requested the extension of these restrictions on liberty.
