Two arrested for drug trafficking in Amadora following flight from police with prohibited firearm and ammunition
Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested in Amadora on suspicion of drug trafficking, in possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition and over 500 euros in cash.
Flight from officers ends in arrest for drug trafficking in Amadora
Two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested by Amadora police for strong indications of drug trafficking, according to Correio da Manhã. The suspects were part of a group of five people, some of whom were consuming drugs in public when they were detected by patrolling officers.
When intercepted by police, one of the group members fled into a building and threw an expandable baton in the direction of the officers. The authorities managed to arrest two of the suspects at the scene.
Prohibited calibre firearm and material associated with trafficking
During the search, the two arrested men had in their possession a .38 calibre pistol — whose possession is prohibited for civilians — and two rounds of ammunition. A sum of 531.55 euros in cash, 11.48 individual doses of hashish, nine resealable bags and a bottle of ammonia were also seized.
Police also identified a mobile phone found in the suspects' possession as being from a robbery.
Arrest founded on evidence of trafficking
The authorities based the arrest on three elements: the suspects were found in a building identified as a drug trafficking point, they have no known employment, and there are, according to police, "strong indications that they are engaged in drug trafficking".
