Two members of the Armilar Lusitano Movement (MAL), responsible for cataloguing individuals and organisations identified as culpable for the country's degradation, have been released. The news was revealed by newspaper Público.
One of the suspects had been in preventive custody for approximately twelve months. The public prosecutor who brought terrorism charges against nine members of this far-right organisation concluded that the risk of persistent unlawful conduct had diminished, requesting the prisoner's release. The criminal investigation judge gave a favourable opinion on the measure, ordering release on Friday.
The second suspect had not been previously detained, having been in a state of freedom since the start of the proceedings.
The tasks of these two defendants consisted of gathering information on potential targets, organising the data in electronic documents. According to authorities, they recorded more than two hundred potential victims.
The legal proceeding involves nine people accused of being members of a terrorist structure. The investigation was initiated by an operation by the Judicial Police that dismantled the group.
