Foreign national arrested in Almeirim for sexually abusing stepdaughters aged 9 and 10
A 31-year-old man of foreign nationality was arrested by the Judicial Police in Lisbon in Almeirim, in the Santarém district. He is suspected of coercion and sexual abuse against his two stepdaughters, aged 9 and 10. He is also accused of domestic violence against his partner, the girls' mother.
The offences date back to 2023 and continued until the moment of arrest at the family home. The arrest occurred less than a day after the complaint was filed.
The family has been living in Portugal for approximately three years and is considered well integrated. Both adults are employed and the girls attend primary school.
Since 2023, the victims had been subjected to domestic violence, including physical and psychological assault. The partner was also subjected to sexual abuse.
In the early hours of Sunday, the girls' mother caught her partner in a suspicious situation with her daughters. The woman acted in a way that allowed the children to escape and seek help. The GNR attended the scene and alerted the Judicial Police.
The Judicial Police's Sexual Crimes Investigation Section gathered robust evidence pointing to the perpetrator of the crimes. The suspect was brought to court, where the judge decided to keep him free, imposing only the condition that he leave the family home.
