The Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Mafra, integrated into the Territorial Command of Lisbon of the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), arrested two men — aged 51 and 55 — on Thursday, 5 November, for drug trafficking in Ericeira, in the municipality of Mafra. The operation concluded an investigation lasting approximately six months.
According to mag.sapo.pt, GNR officers determined during this period that the suspects were engaged in the distribution and sale of narcotics, supplying consumers and other individuals involved in drug trafficking in the localities of Ericeira and Encarnação, in the municipality of Mafra, and also in the municipality of Torres Vedras.
The police operation included the execution of two residential search warrants and seven non-residential search warrants.
Arsenal and drugs seized
The material recovered includes two grenades — one offensive and one defensive, both with explosive charges — a loaded 9 mm calibre pistol, a revolver, two carbines and an extending baton. A further 375 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, six cutting knives and five sabres were also seized.
With regard to narcotics, officers recovered 206 doses of hashish, two doses of cocaine, four cannabis plants and 484 grammes of a solid substance whose composition awaits laboratory analysis. The operation also resulted in the seizure of €9,225 in cash, four precision scales, three mobile phones and a vacuum-sealing machine.
Reinforcements and enforcement measures
The operation was supported by the GNR Intervention Unit, through the Special Operations Intervention Group, the Public Order Intervention Group, the Canine Intervention Group and the Explosives Deactivation and Underground Safety Centre, as well as the Lisbon Intervention Unit.
The two arrested individuals were constituted as suspects and presented for first judicial questioning at the Judicial Court of Sintra. One of the suspects was subject to the enforcement measure of preventive detention; the other was subject to an obligation of weekly reporting.
