Officers of the Guarda Nacional Republicana arrested a 53-year-old man in Águeda (Aveiro) on Tuesday. He is suspected of abusing and threatening to kill his 31-year-old partner, using a firearm.
The operation resulted from an inquiry that had been ongoing for approximately three weeks into domestic violence. During the inquiry, officers established that the alleged attacker beat the victim and intimidated her with a pistol or revolver.
In the course of the operation, several searches were carried out: five at residences, four at repair garages and two in vehicles, in the localities of Oliveira de Azeméis and Águeda. Among the seized material were five hunting rifles of 12-gauge calibre, 42 projectiles of the same calibre, four mobile phones and one pepper spray canister.
The detainee was formalised as a defendant and brought before the Judicial Court of Aveiro on Wednesday at 14:00. Until the start of the evening, the restrictions imposed by the judge were not in the public domain.
