The Prime Minister's office has warned of an attempted fraud through email and WhatsApp, in which criminals use the name of Luís Montenegro and his chief of staff to request the completion of a confidentiality agreement.

The office of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro warned on Monday evening of a digital fraud campaign that uses the name of the head of government and his chief of staff to deceive potential victims.
According to a statement released by the office, several people were targeted by fraudulent contacts made by email and through the WhatsApp application. The criminals invoke the identity of the Prime Minister and his deputy to request the completion of an alleged confidentiality agreement.
The fraud has already been reported to the relevant authorities, the office of Luís Montenegro confirmed.
This type of cybercrime scheme, known as phishing, has been increasing in Portugal. The National Unit for Combating Cybercrime and Technological Crime (UNC3T) of the Judicial Police has issued repeated warnings to the public. The perpetrators of these crimes frequently use falsified SMS messages and emails, with logos and formats very similar to official ones, with the aim of stealing personal data and banking information from victims.
