A 21-year-old woman was detained by Leiria PSP inside a retail shop, accused of being part of a gang dedicated to stealing goods. The individuals took advantage of buggies, rucksacks and bags to hide the products. Source: Correio da Manhã
The incident occurred on 15 June, when ten people — four adults and six children — entered a shop in the region. Authorities state that those involved operated in an organised manner. They concealed part of the material taken among personal effects, adult clothing, children's clothes and other items of little value, in an attempt not to be detected by employees.
The PSP's Rapid Intervention Team was called to the scene and, in the vicinity, some suspects attempted to escape, leaving behind stolen goods, including food products, cosmetics and hygiene items.
The detainee was found with some of the objects. Officers recovered most of the merchandise, which they returned to the affected establishment. The total amount of articles is around 500 euros.
The woman was constituted as a suspect and brought before a judge. She was released on the condition of presenting proof of identity and residence. She was already known to security forces for property-related crimes, namely shop thefts and car theft.
