Man shot by police after assaulting officers in domestic violence case in Amadora
A 26-year-old man was shot in the leg by a PSP officer in Amadora after assaulting police during an intervention in a domestic violence case.

A 26-year-old man was wounded by a gunshot to the leg on Tuesday after assaulting PSP officers during a police intervention in Parque Fonte das Avencas, in A-da-Beja, in Amadora. The alert for the incident was received at 12:21, according to findings by Correio da Manhã.
The case originated when the suspect's father, aged 62, went to the police station to lodge a complaint against his son for domestic violence. This was already the second consecutive day that officers from Amadora's Police Division had been called to intervene at the victim's residence, according to the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis) of the Public Security Police, cited by Lusa.
Officers accompanied the father to the house with the aim of identifying the suspect. The intervention escalated when the young man reacted violently against the police.
Cometlis confirmed that "one of the police officers, upon being assaulted and after various warnings, resorted to use of a firearm against the suspect, striking him in one of the legs". The PSP assured Lusa that the shot was fired in "self-defence", to preserve the physical integrity of the officers, adding that a criminal investigation would be opened.
A source from the PSP National Directorate indicated to Lusa that the young man suffered a minor wound to the right leg and was transported to Professor Doctor Fernando Fonseca Hospital, in Amadora-Sintra, where he remains hospitalised. Emergency medical services and fire brigade resources were mobilised to the scene, in addition to police personnel.
