Man shot by PSP in Amadora assaults father and remanded in custody
A 27-year-old man attacked his father hours after being released by the court, breaching a restraining order. He was arrested again and remanded in custody.
Arrested again hours after leaving court
A 27-year-old man who had been shot by a PSP officer in Amadora after attacking police with stones was arrested for the second time in less than 24 hours for breaching a court restraining order and assaulting his father again. According to Correio da Manhã, the suspect was remanded in custody following the second court hearing.
The facts preceding the shooting
The initial incident occurred in the A-da-Beja area of Amadora. The suspect's father, aged 62, filed a complaint for domestic violence. When PSP arrived at the location, the man barricaded himself inside the house and fled through a window. When confronted with orders to remain still, he responded by throwing stones at the officers. One of the police officers fired, hitting him in the leg.
The suspect was taken under arrest to Amadora-Sintra Hospital, where he received treatment for injuries caused by the firearm.
Released by the judge, reoffended hours later
After being discharged from hospital, the man appeared in court. The judge chose not to apply remand in custody, despite evidence of domestic violence, but imposed two conditions on the defendant: not to contact his father and not to return to his father's home.
The suspect ignored both restraining measures. A few hours after the hearing, he kicked down the door of his father's house and assaulted him again.
PSP informed the court and arrest warrants were issued
The PSP was quickly alerted to the new assaults and informed the court of the situation. Arrest warrants were issued and the suspect was arrested again. At the second court hearing, the man was subjected to the most serious restraining measure provided for by law: remand in custody.
