Arrested in Fafe on suspicion of sexually abusing neighbouring child

The Judicial Police arrested a 21-year-old man in Fafe, in the district of Braga, suspected of having sexually abused a 9-year-old child, his neighbour. The case was made public this Thursday, as reported by Google News PT — Crime (pt).

The inquiry began on Saturday evening, after the child's mother filed a complaint with the GNR. The PJ was immediately activated and accompanied the minor to the Northern Delegation of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences, where the necessary samples were collected, given that the crime had just occurred.

In statements to inspectors, the child confirmed the facts "with considerable rigour and precision", which, according to police, "gave consistency to the initial complaint". The same information was gathered from the victim's direct family members.

During the judicial interrogation, the suspect ultimately admitted to the abuse. "Given the gravity of the facts established, the suspect was approached and during the judicial interrogation ended up admitting to the sexual abuse," states the PJ in a statement.

Heard in the Judicial Court of Guimarães, the man was subjected to fortnightly check-ins, a prohibition on contact with minors in the absence of an adult, and a prohibition on approaching the victim's residence within less than one kilometre.
