Suspect detained for arson in residential property in Lisbon

The Judicial Police Directorate for Lisbon and Vale do Tejo detained a 30-year-old man suspected of having set fire to the bedroom where he lived in Lisbon on 16 August. According to Google News PT — Crime (pt), the crime is classified as urban arson.

The fire was caused by means of direct flame applied to the bed mattress, where some items of clothing were also located, the Judicial Police explain in a statement.

"The fire resulted in damage to the bedroom through heat action and soot fixation. It equally resulted in danger to the physical integrity of the people who were in the house, and also danger of spread to the other rooms of the dwelling and from there to the entire building, which is structurally and predominantly made up of wooden materials (timber partition)", adds the same source.

The detainee will be brought before the Lisbon Public Prosecution Service for initial judicial interrogation of the detained suspect and application of the restraint measures deemed appropriate.
