The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 37-year-old man in Vila Nova de Gaia on suspicion of child sexual abuse and sexual abuse of minors in a state of dependence or particular vulnerability. The case was reported by Correio da Manhã.
The facts date back to 2023, when the victim — a male minor — was 13 years old.
According to the PJ, the suspect exploited the neighbourhood relationship he maintained with the victim to create a framework of economic and emotional dependence. "Taking advantage of the neighbourhood relationship between them, the suspect managed to establish a framework of economic and emotional dependence that allowed him to repeatedly commit acts of sexual significance with the victim," the police authority stated.
The arrest occurred following an investigation that established "the re-emergence of the danger of contact with the minor". Brought before a judicial inquiry, the man was subjected to preventive detention as a precautionary measure.
