A 50-year-old man was killed by bladed weapon blows in the early hours of Sunday, 30 August, in a dwelling in the parish of Vermoim, in Maia, according to Google News PT — Crime (pt).
The suspect, the victim's stepson and aged 20, fled the scene after the incident but subsequently handed himself over to the PSP. He was later detained by the Judicial Police.
The PJ confirmed the detention in a statement, indicating that both lived in the same house where the crime occurred. "From the evidence gathered, it was established that the suspect and the victim had a disagreement, after which he armed himself with a bladed weapon and struck him in the chest and abdominal region, allegedly to defend himself and his mother, subsequently leaving the house disoriented after the incident," the Judicial Police statement reads.
Before dying, the victim contacted the PSP by telephone requesting assistance. When the authorities arrived at the scene, the man was already lifeless, with injuries to the abdomen, chest and a blow to the head, according to CNN Portugal.
The detainee will be brought before a preliminary judicial hearing on Monday for the application of the restraint measures deemed appropriate.
