An individual aged 64 has been arrested by the Judicial Police in the Azores, accused of having committed sexual acts against a 10-year-old child on an island in the Central group of the archipelago.

The investigation began in April, after the child's mother filed a complaint. Investigations by the Regional Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ enabled investigators to conclude that the abuse is believed to have occurred inside a commercial establishment, at a moment when the suspect was alone with the child.

After being brought before a judge, the detainee was subject to three restraint measures: periodic check-ins at the police station in the area where he resides, prohibition on contacting or approaching the victim, and an obligation to undergo psychiatric treatment.
