Man arrested for drug trafficking in Ançã with cocaine, heroin and over 2,000 euros

Coimbra GNR arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of drug trafficking in the town of Ançã, municipality of Cantanhede. Hundreds of doses of cocaine and heroin were seized, as well as more than 2,100 euros in cash.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking in the town of Ançã, in the municipality of Cantanhede, on Tuesday evening, announced Coimbra GNR on Wednesday. The suspect has a criminal record.

According to Correio da Manhã, the arrest was carried out by military personnel from the Ançã Territorial Post at around 21:00. The operation began when a patrol on routine patrol detected a vehicle whose driver displayed suspicious behaviour.

The commander of the Cantanhede Territorial Detachment, Celso Marques, in statements to Lusa agency, confirmed the circumstances of the stop. "It is a man who already has a criminal record," he added.

Following the police intervention, the military personnel conducted a summary search of the vehicle and a security search of the suspect. Drug product was detected.

In total, 279.5 doses of cocaine, 55 doses of heroin and two doses of hashish were seized, as well as 2,119.90 euros in cash. The GNR also collected seven pipes, a watch, four razors, two mobile phones and various jewellery.

The arrested man was brought for initial judicial questioning at Coimbra's Criminal Instruction Court during Tuesday afternoon. The judge applied the enforcement measure of compulsory periodic appearances four times per week.
