Homicide in Vermoim: stepson detained following stabbing death
Google News PT — Crime reports that a 50-year-old man was killed by bladed-weapon strikes in the early hours of Sunday, 30 August, in a dwelling in the parish of Vermoim, in Maia. The suspect is the stepson, a 20-year-old youth who shared the same house with the victim.
According to the Judicial Police, the suspect and the victim had a disagreement, with the young man seizing a bladed weapon and striking blows to the chest and abdominal region. The PJ indicates that the suspect acted "allegedly in self-defence and to defend his mother", leaving the dwelling in a disoriented state after the incident.
The victim managed to contact the PSP by telephone to request help. When authorities arrived at the scene, the man was already dead, presenting wounds to the abdomen, chest and a blow to the head, according to CNN Portugal.
The young man, who initially fled, eventually turned himself in to the PSP, and was subsequently detained by the Judicial Police. The PJ confirmed the detention in an official statement.
The detainee is to appear on Monday for a first judicial interrogation, where the court will determine the restraining measures considered appropriate.
