Accidental shooting in Vizela café leaves young man in coma in Intensive Care
A 21-year-old young man is hospitalised in a coma at Braga Hospital after being shot in the head at 00:09 on Wednesday in a café in Vizela. Correio da Manhã established that the shooting was accidental and occurred during horseplay with a firearm amongst friends.
The incident happened in an establishment near the headquarters of Vizela Volunteer Firefighters. According to CM, the young man who operated the café showed the group a 6.35 millimetre calibre pistol. While handling the weapon, it discharged accidentally, hitting one of those present in the head.
The victim was assisted at the scene by Vizela Firefighters and subsequently by the medical team from Guimarães VMER, and was transported to Braga Hospital in critical condition. He remains fighting for his life in the Intensive Care unit of that hospital.
The Judicial Police in Braga attended the scene, heard witnesses and identified the person responsible for the shooting — a 25-year-old young man, friend of the victim. The shooter was made an arguido, but was not detained. The investigation is ongoing.
