24-year-old man detained in Lisbon on suspicion of child sexual abuse
A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Lisbon, accused of committing sexual abuse against a child. The victim, who is currently 13 years old, is believed to have been subjected to the crimes when she was between 4 and 8 years old.
According to the Judicial Police, the suspect's mother worked as an informal carer for the child, a circumstance that is said to have provided the detained man with facilitated contact with the child. The investigation concerns the crime of aggravated child sexual abuse.
Everything began when the school detected changes in the child's behaviour and referred her for psychological support. The specialists identified signs consistent with situations of sexual abuse, with the school immediately reporting the facts to the police authorities.
The Judicial Police proceeded with the investigation, confirmed the initial suspicions and identified the young man as the perpetrator of the crimes. The detainee is now in custody and will be brought before the Criminal Investigation Court in Loures for the first judicial interrogation and possible application of precautionary measures.
