Portuguese justice imposes heavy sentence on foreigner for spate of expensive watch robberies in Lisbon
A 26-year-old Venezuelan citizen was sentenced to twelve years in prison for multiple robberies of high-value watches in the city centre. The magistrate applied the sentence in cumulative form, with the defendant acting as co-perpetrator in seven crimes of this kind, six of which were successfully completed and one foiled.
In addition to the time to be served behind bars, the convicted man was ordered to compensate the injured parties for a total amount of 270,000 euros, corresponding to material and immaterial damages.
The intervention of the PSP ended a period of approximately two months during which Lisbon's city centre was the scene of successive robberies of luxury timepieces. Investigators managed to identify and arrest the South American man, who was subsequently tried and punished for the offences committed.
