Luís Neves, national director of the Judicial Police, requisitioned televisions, gym equipment and sofas seized from suspects for operational use by the institution, according to Google News PT based on reports from CNN Portugal and SIC Notícias.
The revelation emerges in the context of a broader controversy surrounding the use of confiscated goods by security force officials. Jornal de Negócios reported that the Minister of Internal Administration is driving a car confiscated from the country's largest drug trafficker, identified by the name "Xuxas".
According to SIC Notícias, Neves authorised the PJ to use other goods belonging to "Xuxas", in addition to the vehicle that sparked the initial controversy. Observador publicly questioned whether the director of the PJ was driving around in the car confiscated from the same trafficker.
