More than 70 detained for drink-driving on São João night in Porto
The GNR detained 71 people for driving under the influence of alcohol during a road traffic inspection operation in the early hours of São João in Porto. More than 4,000 drivers were inspected, with 290 cases of excess alcohol detected.

Seventy-one motorists were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol during a GNR operation carried out in the early hours of Wednesday in Porto, in the context of São João festivities. The data was disclosed by the police force in a statement, which Correio da Manhã had access to.
In the period between 03:30 and 07:30, officers inspected 4,097 motorists. From these checks, 290 cases of excess alcohol in the body emerged. Of these, 71 presented a concentration equal to or above 1.2 grammes per litre, a value that constitutes the criminal offence of drink-driving, for which they were detained.
In addition to arrests for drink-driving, the operation resulted in other detentions. Four individuals were detained for not possessing valid driving licences and one for possessing a prohibited weapon. A total of 263 penalty notices were also issued for various traffic offences.
The initiative involved the participation of approximately 140 GNR officers and focused on previously selected time slots and areas based on analysis of operational data and accident risk. The inspection concentrated on the main roads in the Porto Metropolitan Area, including the A28 (Perafita, Mafamude), the A20 (Vilar do Andorinho), the A43 (Gondomar), the A4 (Águas Santas) and the A3 (Maia and Trofa).
