A man who survived multiple stab wounds inflicted by his wife appeared in Loures court on Tuesday to defend his attacker. The victim asked that Neuza Albino, aged 31, be acquitted and allowed to return to the marital home.
The defendant is accused of attempted qualified homicide, a crime that can be punished with a sentence of between 2 years and 4 months and 16 years and 8 months in prison, as well as expulsion from national territory. She has been in preventive custody since the incident occurred.
The incident dates back to 6 April 2025, at a residence in São João da Talha. According to the prosecution, the husband returned home in a state of intoxication and attempted to force his partner into sexual relations. The woman refused, but the man persisted.
Faced with the refusal, the defendant seized a kitchen knife and struck her husband several times. The victim only realised what was happening when he felt blood running. Despite the gravity of the injuries, the defendant assisted her partner, using a cloth to attempt to stop the bleeding and requesting help from neighbours.
During the first court session, the husband exonerated his wife, claiming that she acted in response to an attempted rape by him. The lawyer for Neuza Albino, Pedro Pestana, stressed that "the victim himself acknowledged that he arrived home intoxicated and obsessed with having sex with his wife". The lawyer added: "Nothing would have happened if the partner had respected the woman. No means no, and it must be respected".
The witness who observed the facts is a São Tomean bricklayer resident in Portugal for four years.
