A 37-year-old woman was the victim of an assault with a blade weapon in the car park of a commercial establishment in the city of Leiria, during the afternoon of Thursday. The attacker, with whom the victim was in an emotional relationship, abandoned the location following the attack.
According to a source from the PSP contacted by CNN Portugal, the incident occurred in the underground car park of the shopping centre, with the alert being raised shortly after 1 p.m. The individual fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle at the location, which was subsequently examined by authorities.
The victim received assistance at the scene before being taken to the city hospital as a precautionary measure. The police confirmed that the injuries do not pose a risk to her life, classifying them as minor. During the operation, one of the car park exits was closed to the public.
Security camera footage from the commercial space, which captured the couple shortly before the incident, is being examined by investigators. The alleged perpetrator of the crime was apprehended approximately two hours later in the capital.
