Eight convicted in 'Hells Angels' case lodge appeals at Court of Appeal of Lisbon
The Court of Appeal of Lisbon will hear, on 22 June, the defence arguments of eight defendants convicted in the case of the 'Hells Angels' motorbike group. The session was scheduled for a courtroom at the Campus de Justiça in the capital, at the request of a magistrate at the superior court.
The eight defendants are part of a total of 86 individuals who were sentenced by the Justice system in connection with this case. The final ruling was delivered on 20 July 2023, following a robbery at a fast-food restaurant chain in Loures, which occurred in March 2018.
The sentences imposed cover crimes such as forming a criminal association, attempted qualified homicide, extortion, robbery and drug trafficking. The penalties range from one year and nine months to 15 and a half years imprisonment.
Several appeals were filed, with this being the first batch to be heard. The defences of the remaining convicted individuals are still awaiting review. Since the sentence was pronounced, two of the defendants have died.
