Goldsmith aged 53 held in preventive custody over gold bar theft in Gondomar
The fourth suspect in the theft of three gold bars valued at 342,000 euros in Gondomar has been placed in preventive custody. The Porto PSP identified the man as the alleged mastermind of the robbery.

According to Google News PT — Crime (pt), a 53-year-old goldsmith residing in Gondomar has been placed in preventive custody following the theft of three gold bars valued at approximately 342,000 euros. The Porto PSP announced the measure on Wednesday, confirming that the suspect is the fourth person arrested in connection with the case and that the previous three are also in preventive custody.
The man is identified as the alleged mastermind of the robbery, which occurred on 6 August on Rua António Nobre in Gondomar, Porto district. The arrest was carried out on Monday at 11 am pursuant to an arrest warrant. The suspect is charged with aggravated robbery.
On the day of the crime, the victim was carrying the gold bars in a rucksack and was travelling to the location to sell them to a company based there, through an intermediary who owns a jewellery shop in Gondomar. Three men surprised the victim and, using physical force, took possession of the gold, a mobile phone and a laptop computer.
During the investigation, the PSP located the stolen mobile phone and identified the vehicle used by the alleged robbers, which was registered in the name of a resident near the location where it was found parked. The vehicle was seized and the residence came under police surveillance.
In parallel, urgent steps were taken to locate the business intermediary. The company allegedly intended as the destination for the sale was contacted and stated it had no knowledge of any transaction involving the victim, the intermediary or the gold in question. The residence of the intermediary was likewise placed under surveillance, the PSP added.
