The Judicial Police (PJ) have detained six suspects aged between 21 and 44 years as part of an operation against drug trafficking in Sintra, according to Google News PT — Crime (pt). The detentions occurred following nine domestic searches and those charged face charges of drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons.
The operation was conducted by the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking, in collaboration with canine teams from the Public Security Police (PSP).
The investigation has gathered evidence of the existence of an "organised criminal structure" that, for at least two years, allegedly engaged in the acquisition, preparation, cutting, weighing, packaging and sale of drugs, according to a PJ statement. The products were distributed to a large number of users in neighbourhoods on the urban periphery of Sintra.
During the searches, authorities seized cocaine, hashish and MDMA, totalling approximately 2,500 individual doses. Two firearms were also recovered, cash and two vehicles allegedly connected to the criminal activity.
The PJ emphasised that the intervention is part of a strategy to combat structures responsible for the "regular distribution of drugs to local communities". The institution also warned of the "direct impact on public safety" resulting from drug trafficking, with particular emphasis on residential areas where sales occur on a continuous basis.
The six detainees will be presented for initial judicial questioning for the application of custody measures deemed appropriate. The investigation continues under the direction of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) in Sintra, with the aim of identifying any other individuals involved and establishing their criminal responsibilities.
