PJ extradites Romanian suspect in stabbing from Germany to Portugal
A 53-year-old Romanian national was extradited from Germany to Portugal on suspicion of attempted murder that occurred in Aljustrel in September 2025.
Stabbing suspect in Alentejo farm handed over to Portuguese authorities
The Judicial Police (PJ) has extradited from Germany a 53-year-old Romanian national, wanted on suspicion of attempted murder committed in Aljustrel, in Beja district, in September 2025. The arrest was disclosed on Tuesday, as reported by Correio da Manhã.
The case originated from an assault that occurred at the workplace of the suspect and the victim, on a farm in that Alentejo municipality. The victim, a 38-year-old man, was stabbed following an argument, with the assailant acting under the influence of excessive alcohol consumption.
The injuries sustained did not have fatal consequences thanks to the rapid intervention of emergency services and swift transport to the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo, Beja Hospital. Following the attack, the suspect fled to Romania, eventually being located in German territory.
The investigation was conducted by the PJ's Southern Directorate. The proceedings made it possible to identify the author of the facts and gather probative elements considered to be strongly indicative of the commission of the crime, which enabled the issuance of arrest warrants outside of flagrant delict.
The extradition operation was carried out by the PJ's International Cooperation Unit, based on a European Arrest Warrant issued by Portugal. After the first judicial interrogation, the suspect was remanded in custody, according to a police source cited by the Lusa agency.
The inquiry is being directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Ourique.
