Police detain distributor of 'laughing gas' in Cascais
A man was apprehended by officers from the PSP whilst making home deliveries of nitrous oxide in the Trajouce area of São Domingos de Rana, in the municipality of Cascais. The substance, popularly known as "laughing gas", has restricted possession for medical uses only.
The operation took place on Wednesday afternoon, at around 17:30, as part of regular patrols by the Cascais Police Division. The individual was not affiliated with any recognised transport company and was making deliveries in a disorganised manner, at various locations, without establishing direct contact with purchasers.
When questioned by officers, the suspect confirmed he was distributing the substance and admitted that he did not have any licence or legal permission for handling the product.
During a search of the vehicle, police officers seized 168 three-litre bottles of nitrous oxide, each containing 3.4 kilogrammes. Additionally, 1,172 balloons and €2,260 in cash were confiscated, a sum suspected to be proceeds from sales.
The case is being handled administratively by INFARMED, which can apply significant monetary sanctions.
