PSP officer wounded with craft knife in Lisbon operates on tendon

A PSP officer underwent surgery on Saturday to reconstruct a tendon in his hand after being stabbed on Friday night in Martim Moniz, Lisbon. The cut, caused by a craft knife, struck the tendon and necessitated surgical intervention to restore the ability to use the affected hand, according to police sources cited by Correio da Manhã.

The incident occurred at approximately 20:30 near the Oriental Market at Martim Moniz Square. The officer, who belongs to the Public Transport Security Division (DSTP) of the Lisbon Command, approached a man on suspicion of theft. The suspect, who was carrying a craft knife, attempted to evade police intervention by resorting to the weapon, striking the officer in a hand.

The man was ultimately detained at the scene and will be presented to court. The wounded officer was immediately transported to São José Hospital, subsequently being transferred to São Francisco Xavier Hospital, where the surgery took place.
