During this period on the run, which extended for approximately four years, the convicted man remained beyond the reach of Portuguese authorities until he was located and arrested by Swiss authorities.
The handover of the individual to Portuguese authorities was carried out under the terms of international judicial cooperation existing between Portugal and Switzerland, allowing the convicted man to be placed at the disposal of the national prison system to begin serving his sentence.
